Sheila Simon: Ready to Lead

Yesterday, Governor Quinn reinforced his dedication to reform and his support for working families by selecting Sheila Simon as the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor. Today, the State Central Committee followed his lead, and chose Simon to join the 2010 Democratic ticket.

As an experienced and dedicated public servant, Simon served as one of the leaders of the Illinois Reform Commission.  She helped pass of major reforms to enhance government transparency, such as contract procurement and campaign finance reform.

Quinn for Illinois Online

Today, My Fox Illinois had an interesting piece about New Media in the 2010 Gubernatorial Primary election.  Since the Obama campaign nearly perfected online campaigning in 2008, Netroots activity has become an essential part of any legitimate political operation.  Online activism helps candidates reach as many voters as possible in the shortest amount of time.  Right now, Governor Quinn is working hard to talk to as many voters possible, but he can’t be everywhere at once.  Enter our new media team.

Dan Hynes’ hypocrisy is jaw-dropping.  After making prison release programs his signature campaign issue, he now admits that he gave a $60,000-a-year part-time consulting job in his own campaign to a felon who was released after serving nine months of a two-year sentence.  Even worse, the felon in Hynes’ campaign was convicted of stealing $100,000 in state grant money – tax dollars that were intended to help inner-city businesses expand and create new jobs.

One year ago, Illinois faced crises on multiple fronts.  As citizens of our state felt the full force of the Great Recession, we had to witness the ignominious spectacle of our former governor being led away from his home in handcuffs.  One year later, we can confidently say that Illinois state government is back in good hands.  My friend Pat Quinn has restored integrity, honesty, and transparency to the Governor’s Office.  He’s enacted more fundamental reforms to state government than any other governor in living memory.  The following is only a small piece of what Governor Quinn has accomplished so far.....

We just learned the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club, a force for environmental issues in Illinois since 1959, has decided to endorse Governor Quinn.  With 30,000 members, the group’s endorsement represents a great addition to our already strong momentum, 60 days out from the February 2 Democratic Primary.  We’re grateful to the Sierra Club for their endorsement, as well as their willingness to stand out in the cold with us at North Avenue Beach Saturday for the 1 p.m. announcement.
