Every day, Governor Quinn wakes up and goes to sleep thinking about ways to create and save jobs in Illinois. He knows that the only way to dig ourselves out of this economic hole is to keep adding and saving jobs day after day, month after month. Along those lines, Governor Quinn has taken decisive action this week to reverse unemployment and bring new jobs to Illinois.
Addressing the Democratic National Convention in 1932, Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt of New York asked the question, “What do the people of America want more than anything else?”
Roosevelt knew Americans wanted two things: “Work, with all the moral and spiritual values that go with it; and with work, a reasonable measure of security--security for themselves and for their wives and children.”
Quinn for Illinois has gotten some pretty good news. According to the latest Chicago Tribune poll, we're ahead of our closest opponent by a pretty significant margin. But we aren't going to rest until we achieve what we've set out to do. Governor Quinn has been concentrating on bringing jobs and growth to Illinois since he first entered office, and we're determined to bring his message to everyone in our state. As the Governor says, "If you're willing, we want you working in Illinois." We face significant challenges on the road to recovery, but with Governor Quinn's vision and leadership, Illinois is going to emerge as a 21st century economic powerhouse.
Like everyone else in Illinois, I have had to spend the past year listening to talk show hosts and late-night comics making jokes about our state and the people who have led us. But there is nothing remotely funny about a government, at any level, that has lost sight of its true responsibilities. But while Illinois has been stained by corruption in elected office, we also look back with pride on such great, courageous reformers as Nobel Peace Prize winner Jane Addams, U.S. Senator Paul Douglas, U.S. Senator Paul Simon, and President Barack Obama.
One year ago, Illinois faced crises on multiple fronts. As citizens of our state felt the full force of the Great Recession, we had to witness the ignominious spectacle of our former governor being led away from his home in handcuffs. One year later, we can confidently say that Illinois state government is back in good hands. My friend Pat Quinn has restored integrity, honesty, and transparency to the Governor’s Office. He’s enacted more fundamental reforms to state government than any other governor in living memory. The following is only a small piece of what Governor Quinn has accomplished so far.....
Today I had the pleasure of being on the West Side of Chicago with Governor Pat Quinn as he received the unanimous endorsement of the West Side Black Elected Officials. He addressed issues such as jobs, violence, and education. Governor Quinn made it clear that he would fight to ensure that the West Side would not be ignored during his administration. He outlined a comprehensive plan to make sure that Green Economy jobs reach the people there that need them the most. It helps that he has been a resident of the West Side for over 20 years!

We just learned the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club, a force for environmental issues in Illinois since 1959, has decided to endorse Governor Quinn. With 30,000 members, the group’s endorsement represents a great addition to our already strong momentum, 60 days out from the February 2 Democratic Primary. We’re grateful to the Sierra Club for their endorsement, as well as their willingness to stand out in the cold with us at North Avenue Beach Saturday for the 1 p.m. announcement.
I was on the CTA Blue Line, headed to work. So was Pat Quinn. I had met him once before, briefly, when I was volunteering at a political event. I didn’t say anything, because I didn’t want to interrupt him while he was reading the newspaper. But he looked up, recognized me, and said, “Hector, how we doin’?” I couldn’t believe it. Here he was, one of the highest-ranking elected officials in Illinois, and he was taking the El to work and he remembered my name.
