Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois Endorse Governor Quinn

CHICAGO – Praising Governor Quinn’s long record of standing up for working families, the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) and the Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2 Tuesday announced its endorsement of Governor Pat Quinn.

“Governor Quinn has always supported firefighters and working families throughout the state of Illinois, and we are proud to return that support,” AFFI President Pat Devaney said during a news conference outside a Chicago firehouse.  “As firefighters, we value the ability to perform under pressure, and Governor Quinn has shown a tremendous commitment to meeting the challenges of the state head-on.”

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety of everyone living in Illinois,” Governor Quinn said.  “I am very proud to earn the endorsement of these brave, hard-working men and women.”

The AFFI represents more than 200 locals and 15,000 full-time professional firefighters and retired members throughout the state of Illinois.

With its announcement, the AFFI joins a lengthy list of major Illinois unions that have endorsed Governor Quinn, including UNITE HERE Local 1, the Teamsters Joint Council 25,  SEIU Illinois Council, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, United Auto Workers Region Four, and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 881.
