CHICAGO – Citing his "solid record as a political reformer and friend of the taxpayer, the Belleville News-Democrat today endorsed Governor Pat Quinn in the Feb. 2 Democratic primary.
“I used to live in the Metro East area, so I am especially proud to have earned the endorsement of the News-Democrat,” Governor Quinn said. “I am encouraged that my message of jobs, economic growth and opportunity for all is being heard throughout the state of Illinois.”
In its endorsement, the News-Democrat noted that challenger Dan Hynes “seems interested in watching out for special interests, such as the state employees' unions.”
In stark contrast, the endorsement stated: “Quinn never became part of the Democratic inner power circle, despite years of holding statewide offices. We feel confident he would retain that independent streak if elected.”
Governor Quinn also has earned the endorsement of the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, the City News and the Evanston Sentinel. He has been endorsed by nearly 200 elected officials, labor unions and advocacy groups statewide.
