Forest Claypool on Governor Quinn, Reform

One year ago, Illinois faced crises on multiple fronts.  As citizens of our state felt the full force of the Great Recession, we had to witness the ignominious spectacle of our former governor being led away from his home in handcuffs.  One year later, we can confidently say that Illinois state government is back in good hands.  My friend Pat Quinn has restored integrity, honesty, and transparency to the Governor’s Office.  He’s enacted more fundamental reforms to state government than any other governor in living memory.  The following is only a small piece of what Governor Quinn has accomplished so far:

  • Ordered all state agencies to make more information available to the public, to apply FOIA exemptions more narrowly, and to make more information about state agencies available online
  • Enacted fundamental reform of the state’s pension boards
  • Overhauled Illinois’ procurement system
  • Increased government transparency by creating Appointments.Illinois.gov
  • Cleaned up the University of Illinois Board of Trustees after the “Category I” admissions scandal

At a time when we needed smart and honest leadership, Pat Quinn has stepped forward.  We need him to carry on the battle against clout and insider deals for another 4 years.  I’m convinced that Governor Quinn, a lifelong reformer and my personal friend, is the right person to reform our state government and lead us during this difficult time.
