Governor Quinn returned to Illinois today after visiting American servicemembers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and a German military hospital. After a weekend tour of Iraqi outposts from the Anbar province to Tallil Air Base, he visited Task Force Phoenix Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan on Sunday. He presented awards and medals, and spent time with the troops there. Many of them were members of the Illinois National Guard, which for the past seven months have been leading the Afghan police and army mentoring program.
Yesterday, he left Afghanistan and flew to the Ramstein Air Base, in Germany. He spent his time there at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, visiting with injured servicemembers and their families. This is the latest of several visits by Governor Quinn, who has long made it his mission to stand by those who have stood so strong for our country.
Governor Quinn made this Department of Defense sponsored trip with four other governors from around the country, because he wanted to express Illinois's continued support for its sons and daughters overseas, and express his own personal gratitude for the sacrifices they make in the name of their country and state.
