Quinn for Illinois

I felt very proud as I stood there in the Caballeros de San Juan – Credit Union 1 in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, watching two longtime leaders, Governor Pat Quinn and U.S. Rep Luis Gutierrez, talk about their joint record of standing up for everyday people. 

Congressman Gutierrez endorsed Governor Quinn in an inspiring speech about the many years they have spent fighting to protect hard-working families from unscrupulous lenders and greedy utility companies.

I know that Governor Quinn is in this race to help put our state economy back and track and create good jobs for working people – as Congressman Gutierrez made clear in his speech.

Working on the Governor’s campaign has been exciting for me and the whole campaign team. We know that Governor Quinn is a genuine, honest person who will work hard to help make Illinois stronger and get our economy back on track.

I know first-hand what a warm, unpretentious person Pat Quinn really is. I will never forget running into him one morning back in 2005.

I was on the CTA Blue Line, headed to work.  So was Pat Quinn. I had met him once before, briefly, when I was volunteering at a political event.  I didn’t say anything, because I didn’t want to interrupt him while he was reading the newspaper. But he looked up, recognized me, and said, “Hector, how we doin’?”

I couldn’t believe it. Here he was, one of the highest-ranking elected officials in Illinois, and he was taking the El to work and he remembered my name.

This showed me that Pat Quinn is really the kind of person who cares about people – and pays attention to them. Ever since then, the more I’ve learned about Pat Quinn, the more strongly I have been convinced that he is the kind of person we want leading our state, and making decisions that affect all of us every day.
