Today, we pause to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Memorial Day reminds us to think about the freedoms we enjoy and the honorable service of our men and women in uniform.
This weekend, Governor Quinn signed into law two bills designed to support servicemembers. A new law increases foreclosure protections – providing a 90-day stay for those on active service. The other allows more servicemembers to receive compensation under the War on Terrorism Act.
In addition, the Governor is urging frequent flyers to donate their unused miles to Operation Hero Miles. The program provides airline tickets to injured servicemembers and their families to help them recuperate. If you would like to get involved, please click here.
Throughout his career, Pat Quinn has been a tireless supporter of our servicemembers, veterans and their families. He has championed financial assistance for the families of Illinois National Guard members and reservists called to active duty, and he signed legislation to help veterans transition back into school and the workforce.
The Governor will take a break from the campaign trail today, as he believes that Memorial Day should be reserved for our fallen servicemembers. We all mourn their sacrifice, and honor their memories.
We at the Governor’s campaign will be thinking about our troops, and thanking the men and women in our lives that make us all proud by wearing a uniform. We hope you’ll do the same.
A very happy Memorial Day to you and your family.
