Dan Hynes’ hypocrisy is jaw-dropping.
After making prison release programs his signature campaign issue, he now admits that he gave a $60,000-a-year part-time consulting job in his own campaign to a felon who was released after serving nine months of a two-year sentence.
Even worse, the felon in Hynes’ campaign was convicted of stealing $100,000 in state grant money – tax dollars that were intended to help inner-city businesses expand and create new jobs.
After news reports this weekend uncovered William Norels’ secret criminal past (http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/1982210,CST-NWS-hynes10.article), the Hynes campaign claimed Hynes had no idea that he was employing a former felon convicted of stealing $100,000 in state funds.
Comptroller Hynes continues to attack Governor Quinn in misleading, deceptive ads rather than to talk about his own record or present a vision for the state’s future.
Perhaps this is because Comptroller Hynes’ record is rife with oversights and misdeeds that have occurred on his watch – from the Burr Oak Cemetery tragedy, to the $100 million burial fund fiasco, and now to the hiring of a campaign consultant who stole $100,000 from Illinois taxpayers.
Maybe Hynes should clean up his own house before throwing more stones.
