Lowering the Minimum Wage?

If it wasn’t clear before that Senator Brady was completely out of touch with the concerns of working families, it certainly is now.

Today, Senator Bill Brady proposed LOWERING the minimum wage.

We were astonished, too.

Brady has shown repeatedly that he’s insensitive to working people, proposing tax cuts for the rich and draconian 10% across-the-board cuts to healthcare, education and public safety. He opposes equal pay for equal work and family medical leave, but this latest proposal is outrageous.

Here are the facts: Last year, some 390,000 people earned a living on the minimum wage. The Illinois minimum wage is set to increase on July 1 to help workers make ends meet.

Under Senator Brady’s proposal, these workers and their families would lose over $2,000 a year, working 40 hours a week.

Senator Brady has once again demonstrated his disregard for the hard-working people of our state. His solution to our economic problems is to turn back the clock on one of our most basic and essential worker protections.

He’s simply too extreme for Illinois.

Illinois workers – literally – can’t afford Senator Brady.
