Quinn for Illinois

CHICAGO

The Winter Olympics are getting under way in Vancouver and Gov. Pat Quinn is saluting the Illinoisans there to compete. 

Quinn declared the day of Friday's opening ceremony as "Illinois 2010 Winter Olympics Athletes Day" in the state. 

A number of athletes with Illinois connections are in Canada for the Games. 

There's ice dancer and Chicago native Ben Agosto, speedskater Shani Davis, a female hockey player, figure skater Evan Lysacek of Naperville, a bobsledder, other speedskaters and more. 

The Olympics end Feb. 28.
