Rock Island Argus Endorses Governor Pat Quinn

CHICAGO – Praising his ability to deliver on "top priorities for our region," the Rock Island Argus today endorsed Governor Pat Quinn in the Feb. 2 Democratic primary.

“I am proud to have earned the endorsement of the Rock Island Argus,” Governor Quinn said. “I am encouraged that the Argus recognized my lifelong record of fighting for everyday people against corrupt politicians and wealthy special interests. It is good to know that my message of jobs, economic growth and opportunity for all is being heard and supported by voters throughout the state of Illinois.”

In its endorsement, the Rock Island Argus noted "Springfield insider" Comptroller Dan Hynes "overlooked problems in the Illinois Funeral Directors Association Pre-Need Trust Fund. The investments are managed by his office, and the trust fund lost an estimated $59 million or more in pre-paid funeral deposits" on Comptroller Hynes' watch.

In stark contrast, the paper praised Governor Quinn's extensive accomplishments in the Quad Cities region, including funding for the new Western Illinois University-Quad Cities campus, developing a plan to sell Thomson prison to the federal government, and securing federal funds to construct an upgraded rail system between the Quad Cities and Chicago.

Governor Quinn also has earned the endorsement of the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, the Kankakee City News, the Belleville News-Democrat and the Evanston Sentinel. He has been endorsed by nearly 200 elected officials, labor unions and advocacy groups statewide.
