Schakowsky, Fellow Progressive Dems Endorse Governor Pat Quinn
(CHICAGO) - Citing Governor Pat Quinn's decades of unswerving support for progressive causes in Illinois, U.S. Rep Jan Schakowsky today led a group of highly regarded Democratic elected officials and community leaders in endorsing Governor Quinn's campaign.
"I am honored by the support of Congresswoman Schakowsky and so many other well-respected Illinois leaders," Quinn said at a news conference in Chicago's Hotel Allegro. "I am very proud that these thoughtful, hard-working men and women share and support my commitment to setting our state government on a sound ethical and fiscal footing."
"Governor Quinn has demonstrated through a lifetime of public service his commitment to progressive values and the people of our state," Schakowsky said. "He took up the mantle of leadership during a trying time for Illinois, and has worked under difficult circumstances to change the political culture in Springfield. I'm proud to endorse Pat Quinn, and I will work to make sure he gets elected to four more years as Governor."
Other leading Illinois Democrats joined Congresswoman Schakowsky in praising Governor Quinn's record of working to support a wide range of progressive issues, during his months in office and over the last three decades.
"I was proud to support Governor Quinn's Illinois Jobs Now! plan, our state's first capital program in a decade," said Illinois State Sen. Iris Y. Martinez, of Chicago. "I look forward to working with Governor Quinn in Springfield to expand mass transit and build affordable housing in Illinois."
The truth is, it's not so much that Governor Quinn needs the endorsement of Illinois' progressive Democrats," added Mike Kreloff, Northfield Township Democratic Committeeman. "It's we who need Governor Quinn."
Congresswoman Schakowsky, Senator Martinez and Committeeman Kreloff were joined in endorsing Governor Quinn by a lengthy roster of well-respected progressive Illinois Democrats, including:
"I know that everyone here today shares my fundamental belief that the will of the people should be the law of the land," Quinn said. "I know their endorsements will help me to bring ethical reform, fiscal responsibility and economic recovery to Illinois."
