GOVERNOR PAT QUINN

CHICAGO – Praising Governor Pat Quinn’s many years of fighting for the everyday people of Illinois, the Westside Black Elected Officials – including U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis – on Monday announced their endorsement of Governor Quinn.

The Westside Black Elected Officials joined together to “fully endorse, unequivocally and without a doubt, for election – Governor Pat Quinn,” Congressman Davis (D-Illinois) said during a news conference at the 37th Ward Democratic Committee Office in Chicago. “Pat is solid and is a rock, and will stand for the people of Illinois like a rock.”

“I want to thank my neighbors here, the people of the West Side,” said Governor Quinn, who has lived in the Galewood neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side for more than 25 years. “I am committed to the West Side of Chicago, and to every side of Illinois, and to getting our economy back on track. I’m going to keep on working until we get our state back where it ought to be.”

Chicago Ald. Emma Mitts, the host of the event, said she supports Governor Quinn because she believes it is time for unity, in the Democratic Party and throughout the state of Illinois. “We’ve had enough of the divisions that have separated us for so long and hindered us from the service we want to provide for our community,” Mitts said. “That’s why we are here.”

Cook County Commissioner Earlean Collins stressed Governor Quinn’s lifelong dedication to reform. “His commitment is to restore the confidence of the people in the integrity of our state government,” she said. “He’s doing that, and he’s doing it in the right way; he’s out talking and walking with everyday people.”

“Pat Quinn is a people’s person,” added Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. “Pat Quinn is a fighter for the people. He’s been fighting for the people for many years, and we support him 100 percent. We need to support him and keep him in place.”

“I know that he will continue to look out for the welfare of senior citizens,” said former Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele. “I also support him for the sake of the interest that he has in education.”

“We’re happy that the Governor understands our needs on the West Side of Chicago,” said State Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood.) “It’s a great opportunity to have him serve with us.”
