Voices from the West Side

Today I had the pleasure of being on the West Side of Chicago with Governor Pat Quinn as he received the unanimous endorsement of the West Side Black Elected Officials.  The group of elected officials included:  Congressman Danny K. Davis; State Senators Rickey Hendon and Kimberly Lightford; State Representatives Karen Yarborough and Anazette Collins;  Former Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele; Cook County Recorder of Deeds Eugene Moore; Cook County Commissioners Earlean Collins and Robert Steele; Aldermen Walter Burnett, Jr., Emma Mitts, and Ed Smith; and Metropolitan water Reclamation District Commissioners Barbara McGowan and Patricia Horton.  While many of these elected officials are involved in competitive campaigns, it was awesome to see that they were willing to come together for someone that they all believe would be best for the State of Illinois, Governor Pat Quinn.

I must admit I was impressed with Governor Quinn's clear understanding and grasp of the issues on the West Side.  He addressed issues such as jobs, violence, and education.  He also made it clear that he would fight to ensure that the West Side would not be ignored during his administration.  He outlined a comprehensive plan to make sure that Green Economy jobs reach the people there that need them the most.  It helps that he has been a resident of the West Side for over 20 years!  I have a funny feeling that things are about to get a whole lot better, not only for the West Side, but also for the State of Illinois.
